SPANISH 1

OVERVIEW

The first year of Spanish will cover basic Spanish sounds, the alphabet, greetings, telling time, numbers, colors , conjugating verbs in different  tenses, etc.  There will be an emphasis on speaking, reading, writing, and listening in Spanish.  Basic grammar, vocabulary, learning to respond to everyday situations, and the correct use of verbs are the main focus.

EXPECTATIONS

Students are expected to be on time and come prepared to class.  Students should have homework completed when they come to class and turned in on time.  They are expected to pay attention during class, to ask questions if they don't understand something, and to work to the best of their ability.

CRITERIA FOR PASSING

A variety of homework, dialogs, quizzes, tests, papers, projects, and presentations will be assigned during the course of this class. Students must achieve a 60% average on these in order to pass this class.

GRADING SYSTEM

Tests, semester final, etc. will count as 50% of the grade.  Other assignments (homework, dialogs, quizzes, etc.)  will count as 50% of the grade. One extra credit is allowed per quarter and will add 1-2 % to the quarter grade depending on the extent of the extra credit work done.
